Second lesson

Today I taught the second oil pastel class to the kids who started last week.
I wanted to keep the shapes simple so there was less drawing required. We did a still life of fruits and a coffee cup.
They were excited because the fruits matched the colors we had in the oil pastels!

I introduced them to underpainting. We first laid out  all the obvious colors: red on the apple, yellow on the banana, etc.
Then spread those around with Res-N-Gel for an even layer of color covering the paper.
Then we went back and put in more color and the lights and darks.
They did a great job and had lots of fun.
